York Hills Centre for Children, Youth and Families is looking for an Occupational Therapist to join our agency. This individual will split their time between the Community Consultation and Assessment Service (CCAAS) team, and assessing clients in our Community Clinical and Intensive programs (Day Treatment and Residential setting). The CCAAS is a specialized consultation and assessment service for children and youth between the ages of 5 and 18 years and their families.
It is a multi-disciplinary team that includes professionals from the fields of Psychiatry, Psychology, Speech and Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work/Marriage and Family Therapy. The team members provide diagnostic clarification and treatment recommendations for children presenting with a wide array of developmental challenges along with chronic, diverse, and complex mental health issues. Concerns can encompass intellectual and adaptive challenges, language and learning issues, and a broad range of social/emotional issues.
The Occupational Therapist will also work with children and adolescents referred to other York Hills programs who present with a variety of mental health diagnoses. This work would include assessment administration, the preparation of reports in collaboration with other team members, and the provision of feedback to providers, families, and clients. Along with assessment, this position may include the provision of individual and group interventions. We are seeking a self-directed, team player who is passionate about working with children!
Here’s what you’ll get to do:
- Provide OT assessments, treatment, and consultation service related to physical, sensory, perceptual, and cognitive impairments of children and adolescents.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and in feedback sessions with clients, their families and service providers.
- Provide consultation and follow-up direction to service providers related to assessment results.
- Provide direction to the multidisciplinary team regarding the OT needs of clients being assessed by the CCAAS service.
- Develop collaborative working relationships with parents and school professionals in promoting skill development in clients in the areas of gross and fine motor skills, sensory integration, written expression, activities of daily living, and self-regulation through practical, easily implemented strategies for both home and school settings.
- Provide individual and group treatment sessions to children and adolescents diagnosed with various psychological and/or psychoeducational disorders, including but not limited to Developmental Delays, gross and fine motor delays, Learning Disabilities, Trauma, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorders, Dysgraphia, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Offer occasional workshops or presentations to agency staff or community members on topics related to children’s OT needs.
Here’s what you’ll NEED:
- Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university
- Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario in good standing
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience working with children and youth with mental health needs, including children with ASD, developmental delays, and ADHD
- Experience using a Trauma-Informed approach to OT assessments & consultations
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- The ability to be creative, flexible, and enthusiastic, and have excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team and with other service providers is essential
- Strong organizational skills, ability to work in a busy environment
- Excellent skills in test administration, scoring, interpretation and report writing
- Previous experience providing clinical supervision to students an asset
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently within given timelines
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle to travel within York region
- Ability to meet the needs of a diverse client base, through knowledge and application of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, anti-racist and cultural competency practices.
- Must be fluent in English, speaking, writing and reading. Fluency in other languages is an asset.
