Most people are aware of the health benefits and importance of sport. It is less clear, however, how occupational therapists can fit into the sport landscape in Canada. This webinar will: Explain how sport fits in to the occupational definitions of leisure and productivity. Identify three ways the occupational therapist role in sport is unique from other healthcare disciplines. Describe the importance of sport in the occupational therapy scope of practice. Access three new sport resources to inform and expand occupational therapy practice.
Learning objectives: Understand the benefits of sport for adult health and well-being. Learn how sport differs from physical activity and exercise. Re-define sport through an occupational lens of leisure and productivity. Understand unique role of occupational therapy in all levels of sport. Discover opportunities for occupational therapists to promote engagement in sport. Learn approaches and strategies occupational therapists can use when facilitating sport participation, including local resources. Explore a case study of the emerging sport of roller derby.
