Occupational therapists play a critical role in improving independence, function, and quality of life for people living with neuromuscular disorders. This webinar will highlight the latest insights from Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC) on the needs of individuals with neuromuscular disease, with a focus on assistive devices, technologies, and the policy landscape that shapes access. You will leave with a better understanding of the costs of living with neuromuscular disease, current gaps and opportunities in function tracking/assessment, and the role occupational therapy can play in addressing these challenges. You will also learn about the value of building a community of practice that connects clinicians, researchers, and advocates to advance equitable care and innovative solutions.
Learning objectives: Understand the unique needs of individuals with neuromuscular disorders and the role of occupational therapy in supporting function and independence. Recognize current challenges and policy considerations related to access to assistive devices, technologies, and supports. Examine the financial and social costs of living with neuromuscular disease and their impact on care planning. Explore approaches to function tracking and their value for clinical practice and health system decision-making.
