Fundamentals of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Location
Virtually on Zoom
Presenter(s)
Dr. Michela David, C.Psych.
This 2-day introductory training offers a practical, hands-on approach to learning basic cognitive behavioural therapy skills, including thought records, the five-part model, agenda setting, and basic elements of Socratic dialogue. These techniques are applicable to the treatment of depression, anxiety and other mental disorders. The skills are also broadly applicable to working with the contextual factors that worsen physical illness and impede recovery from injury. The course emphasizes collaborative techniques, including interactive writing, balancing structure and bond, and goal setting.
This training has been designed for a virtual format, and includes many live demonstrations, interactive exercises and opportunities for questions and discussion. The course assumes no prior CBT experience, although those with some CBT background have still found it useful to hone their skills and to keep their sessions client focused and collaborative. We will look at the typical challenges facing beginning CBT therapists, and how you can overcome them and be more effective in helping your clients.
