Ontario's Fall Economic Statement: OSOT Attends Briefing

OSOT was invited to attend the technical briefing of the 2025 Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review. Ontario’s latest Fall Economic Statement outlines a commitment to shifting health care toward community-based and primary care models, a direction that is both essential and welcome from an occupational therapy perspective. The most significant opportunities lie in the funding for creating and expanding primary care teams and the $1.1 billion investment in Home and Community Care.

While the government is investing in new health infrastructure, the statement reveals a missed opportunity regarding the health care workforce. Occupational therapists were not included in the expansion of the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant (OLSG). The government, has however, proposed inclusion of occupational therapists in the fast-tracking of credential recognition (“As of Right”) for out-of-province professionals. Read the Fall Economic Statement
