Description of Opportunity

Five Counties Children’s Centre (FCCC) has been dedicated to supporting children and youth with physical, developmental and communications needs for nearly five decades. In partnership with families and communities, we provide outpatient and community-based services with the aim of enriching the independence and wellness of those we serve ~ Building Abilities for Life.

We assess and treat clients from infancy to their late teens, offering a wide variety of services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy speech and language therapy, social work and therapeutic recreation. We provide treatment in schools, in the community and at our locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg, Campbellford and Minden.

FCCC is proud of the partnerships we have developed within the community. These partnerships have assisted families in our communities to access additional services that are needed to assist with their child’s development.

About the Job:

We are accepting applications for a full-time, permanent Occupational Therapist in our Peterborough location.

In this position, you will assess, treat, provide consultation to and discharge children and adolescents referred for occupational therapy providing both school based, in-centre and/or fee-for service. You will provide consultation, training and education to clients, their caregivers and other professionals. You will also have the opportunity to participate as a member of the department, clinical multidisciplinary teams and resource committees to promote quality service for clients.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assess, treat, provide education and training to caregivers and other professionals; reassess and discharge clients on caseload.
  • Develop a service plan in consultation with caregivers.
  • Maintain knowledge of current best treatment practice for client population and integrate into practice.
  • Comply with relevant Centre statistical, clinical and administrative reporting requirements in a timely manner.
  • Supervise occupational therapy interns and rehab assistant students.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information pertinent to the children and families served by the Centre.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Paediatric, in-centre and school-based rehabilitation service experience considered an asset, but not required.
  • Experience and understanding of a Family Centred Care model of service delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to work as part of a team with professionals, support staff, and other community agencies.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Solution Focused Coaching training is considered an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to attain certifications required to work within the department (i.e. ADP individual authorizer status, NDT certification, etc.).
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to a variety of locations.
  • Clear vulnerable sector check.
  • Proof of updated immunizations including COVID-19 (two doses).
